The High School is renowned for its exceptional Music provision. Music is an integral part of daily school life; students actively engage in musical activity and often lead the music-making. Corporate music making, both instrumental and choral is of the highest order, and music provision caters for the very advanced as well as for the new and more recent starters. Individual music lessons are provided in all orchestral instruments as well as piano, guitar, percussion and singing.
The many orchestras and wind bands that meet weekly are tiered according to ability. The Symphony Orchestra is 70+ strong while the flagship group, the Chamber Orchestra, plays to junior college level. There is a very wide range of smaller groups and an emphasis on chamber music for the leading players. Choral music is also strong at the School. A busy series of concerts, both large scale and informal, run throughout the year and girls also perform in the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban and further afield in prestigious venues such as St John’s, Smith Square, the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican and other London venues.
