At St Albans High School for Girls our scholarship programme celebrates talent, curiosity, creativity and commitment. We are proud to nurture students who strive for excellence and make a meaningful contribution to school life. The STAHS Scholarship Programme provides ambitious students with specialist mentoring, enriched learning experiences, leadership opportunities and a tailored pathway to develop their talents.

We offer Academic, Art, Drama, Literary, Music (instrumental and choral), Sport, Design and Technology and Debating scholarships, with entry points at Year 7 (11+), Year 10 (14+) and Sixth Form (16+).

Academic Scholarships

For intellectually curious students who thrive on challenge, independent thinking, research and debate.

Available for entry into Year 7, Year 10 and Year 12.

Students who excel in our 11+ entrance assessment are automatically considered and invited to attend the Academic Scholarship Assessment Day, so no separate application is required. For 14+ and 16+ entry, students wishing to be considered for an Academic Scholarship must submit a scholarship application.

Co-Curricular and Creative Scholarships

Art Scholarship

For talented and passionate artists with strong technical skills, creativity and a commitment to developing their artistic practice.

Available in Year 7 (new for 2027), Year 10 and Year 12.

Debating Scholarship

For accomplished communicators who enjoy public speaking, constructing persuasive arguments and leading debate.

Available in Year 12.

Design and Technology Scholarship

For innovative designers and makers with exceptional potential in areas such as 3D Design, Textiles and Engineering.

Available in Year 10 and Year 12.

Drama Scholarship

For students who demonstrate talent, creativity and dedication in performance, theatre-making and dramatic study.

Available in Year 7, Year 10 and Year 12.

STAHS Sixth Form Scholarships for current STAHS pupils

Principal’s Awards

The Principal’s Award is awarded to STAHS Senior pupils in Year 11 who have consistently achieved in the top 10% of the year group cohort based on performance in end-of-year assessments in Years 9 and 10 and on mock exams in Year 11. The Principal’s Award comes with a 50% fee remission for Sixth Form study at STAHS Senior.

Co-curricular Awards

Co-curricular awards are offered to girls in Year 11 for the following reasons:

  • Being selected to perform at national level in a core, school team sport (netball, football, lacrosse, cricket)
  • Being in the top 20% of their year group in GCSE Music when they completed Further Music at the end of Year 10 (based on raw marks)
  • Being in the top 20% of their year group in their GCSE Drama coursework (based on raw marks).
  • Co-curricular awards come with a 10% fee remission in addition to any scholarship that a pupil may hold but are not available to those in receipt of a Principal’s Award.
