Scholars hit airwaves with podcast series

Date Posted: Wednesday 09 February 2022

Last term, our Year 10 and 11 Hodgkin Scholars worked hard to research, write and record a series of original podcasts. Each podcast explores an area of contemporary academic interest ranging from identity politics in the art world to surveillance capitalism.

All the podcasts were of high quality but the award for ‘Best Researched Podcast’ went to Anoushka and Darcey in Year 10 for their intriguing discussion on the relationship between China and the west. They felt the process was really beneficial and said “taking part in the podcast project was extremely exciting. We felt that researching a topic in such depth and then openly discussing it enabled us to develop key research and communicative skills.”

Alice and Polly in Year 11 won the award for ‘Most Engagingly Presented Podcast’ for their excellent discussion on the origins and social impact of herd mentality.

Head of the Hodgkin Scholars, Mrs Kordel gave her thoughts on the podcast series, “I was so impressed with how thoroughly the scholars researched their topics as well as how hard they worked to develop their presenting styles and get to grips with the technology. The podcasts they produced sound professional yet relaxed and engaging. What a fantastic outcome!”

The podcast series is available on Sound Cloud

The Hodgkin Scholarship is available from Year 10 and develops high level thinking and analytical skills, debating and public speaking skills and offers increased academic freedom to independently explore their own areas of interest. Pupils are invited to apply during Year 9.
