German-speaking writers, thinkers and artists have long been and continue to be at the forefront of intellectual life, and German literature, art, cinema and philosophy are influential worldwide. Studying German invites students to delve deeper into this rich culture as well as develop a proficiency in written and spoken German.
Girls find learning this new foreign language from scratch in Year 8 both refreshing and rewarding. Language is learnt through contact with authentic materials including up-to-date songs and short stories, and we provide insights into the lives of famous German scientists, writers, musicians, historical events and festivals.
Learning German develops students’ analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, as well as deepening their knowledge and understanding of the world we live in, essential skills for the 21st Century. Students are often inspired to take their learning further, both to A Level and beyond.
