English

English at STAHS is an exciting subject both inside and outside the classroom. We place literature and the love of stories at the heart of our curriculum, encouraging pupils to read, write and think for themselves as they work with texts from a broad variety of historical eras, geographical locations and literary genres. In our classes, girls develop into articulate communicators and astute critical thinkers.

At The Salon, our literary society, they enjoy seminars on topics as diverse as Sir Gawain and the Green Night and the Booker Prize shortlist. Whether we are standing with Year 8 at The Globe, learning a quadrille with Year 9 at their Jane Austen Dance Workshop or acting out The Merchant of Venice with our visiting RSC Professional, we always ensure that the study of English is memorable, academically rigorous and fun.
