Design & Technology
Design and Technology at STAHS provides a practical, technical and personal learning experience which introduces our students to the knowledge and skills needed for creative design, innovation and engineering.
They tackle problems where there is no right answer and learn to deal with uncertainty by carrying out tasks where they do not have all the information from the start. Seeing their ideas turn into real products that solve real problems empowers students and develops self-confidence. Students learn higher level cognitive skills – developing hypotheses, synthesis of ideas and reflection and have the opportunity to examine and critically evaluate the made world in a creative and stimulating environment.
Food preparation and nutrition at STAHS equips students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. The heart of our curriculum is the development of strong practical cookery skills and techniques as well as a good understanding of nutrition. We believe that students who learn to cook well are more likely to make better food choices and understand healthy eating in its widest context. In addition to this, students learn about the huge challenges that we face globally to supply the world with nutritious and safe food and appreciate the economic, social, moral and ethical issues that surround the food industry.
