Year 12 are ‘Giving Back’

Posted on 4 July 2019

As part of this year’s Sixth Form Perspectives Programme, Year 12 have taken part in a number of student-led philanthropic projects. It started with an exploration of our place in the world by learning about the Savannah Education Trust, watching a film about philanthropy and partnerships (Pride) and hearing from a panel of professionals working in the charity sector. From March, the students were then given time and support to devise their own ‘Giving Back’ projects.

Successful projects included a theatre performance at Farley Primary School, which explored the themes of coping with change and the transition to secondary school; and an afternoon of gardening to support the horticultural project at Heritage House Special School.

The final project of this academic year is a collection of hygiene products for local families and individuals living in crisis. Students are generously donating deodorants, hairbrushes, shampoos, toothbrushes and much more, which will then be sent off to charity partner The Hygiene Bank to help tackle the problem of hygiene poverty.

Well done to all those students who took part in the programme and played their own part in giving back.
