STAHS recognises that the spiritual health and wellbeing of its pupils and staff is an integral part of their learning and development. Whether expressed through affiliation with a particular faith group, or through secular values, it shapes people’s understanding of the world and their place in it.
STAHS was founded as a Church of England school. Today we have built an approach on this foundation which is liberal and inclusive of all faiths and none. STAHS has close links to St Albans Cathedral; the Dean of the cathedral is a school governor, and students are invited to attend the cathedral once a term: for our Carol Service in Michaelmas Term, our Founders’ Day Celebration in the Lent term, and for Prize Giving in the Trinity Term.
STAHS has a full-time Chaplain, Rev Rosie, who is a priest in the Church of England, and works across the Prep and Senior sites, offering support to pupils and staff of all faiths and none. She is an important part of the pastoral care of the school and works closely alongside the pupil support team in the Wellbeing Hub where she is located. In addition, the school has a Multi-Faith Prayer Room, which all pupils can use for prayer and quiet reflection, and is sometimes used for services or faith group meetings. She also oversees charity work across the school and loves helping staff and pupils to make a difference to the world around them through their charitable endeavours.
