Teach to 25

At STAHS, we believe education should prepare girls for life as well as academic success. Our Teach to 25 philosophy underpins everything we do, encouraging participation and stepping outside comfort zones to shape adaptable, resilient learners ready to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Delivered through our bespoke curriculum, it ensures students develop the confidence, curiosity and capabilities needed for success beyond STAHS.

Little Voices, Big Ideas (Pre-Prep)

In Reception and Year 1, Little Voices, Big Ideas nurtures confident expression through weekly sessions focused on voice, rhythm and performance.

Through song, rhyme and storytelling, the girls develop clarity of speech, creativity and self-assurance. With a strong focus on oracy, they learn to speak with confidence, use their voices purposefully and share ideas with imagination and joy.

Forest School (Pre-Prep and Prep)

Learning extends into our onsite woodland for Prep pupils, where the natural environment offers rich opportunities for exploration and discovery.

Through child-led activities and hands-on experiences, girls build independence, teamwork and resilience. Safe risk-taking and meaningful challenges support confidence, problem-solving and self-esteem, while regular time in nature nurtures wellbeing and a sense of calm readiness to learn.

FutureSTAHS (Prep)

Our FutureSTAHS programme equips girls with the skills, confidence and mindset to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. We are able to focus on a curriculum like this in Years 5 and 6 because girls transition seamlessly to St Albans High School for Girls Senior (STAHS Senior), without the pressure of 11+ exam preparation.

The curriculum blends innovation, communication and ethical thinking. Robotics, Wearable Tech and Physical Computing develop creativity, problem‑solving and technological fluency, while Public Speaking and Ethics and Debating strengthen confidence, critical thinking and compassion.

The Sustainability Project encourages imaginative, responsible responses to global challenges. Together, these experiences shape thoughtful, collaborative young leaders, ready for Senior School.

SuperCurriculum (Senior)

Unique to STAHS, our SuperCurriculum takes academics beyond the limits of examinations, encouraging pupils to explore ideas outside the taught syllabus and think independently. Students are challenged to develop informed perspectives, using careful research, debate and presentation to express their thinking with clarity and confidence.

Through a structured programme of subject enrichment, lectures and self-directed exploration, the SuperCurriculum fosters intellectual curiosity and extends learning beyond the classroom, supporting students to become articulate, reflective and academically ambitious learners.

Skills for Life Programme (Senior)

During Years 7 to 11, students follow the STAHS Skills for Life programme, designed to equip them with the knowledge, understanding and confidence to navigate school life and beyond. The programme is structured around three core themes – relationships, health and wellbeing, and living in the wider world – and combines statutory curriculum content with bespoke lessons tailored specifically to the needs of STAHS students. It provides a strong foundation for personal development, supporting pupils to make informed choices and flourish both in school and in their wider lives.

Mary Lucey Research Prize (Sixth Form)

Sixth Form students are given the opportunity to undertake an independent research project, exploring a subject of personal academic interest in significant depth. Guided by expert mentoring, students develop advanced research, analysis and critical thinking skills, culminating in the presentation and defence of their findings in a formal setting. The prize encourages intellectual independence, scholarly curiosity and the confidence to engage with complex ideas, providing excellent preparation for university-level study and beyond.

STAHS Diploma (Sixth Form)

The STAHS Diploma is at the heart of the Sixth Form experience, providing a structured framework that supports students as they progress towards adulthood and prepare for higher education, apprenticeships, and future careers.

Built around four key pillars – Academics, Skills for Life, Service and Leadership, and Making the Leap – the Diploma encourages students to develop intellectually, broaden their interests, contribute positively to their communities, and cultivate essential life skills. Through their individual Diploma Portfolio, students record and reflect upon their achievements, creating a rich record of personal growth that complements their academic studies and helps them become confident, independent, and well-rounded young adults.

Her Voice Matters (Through-School)

In 2025–26, STAHS introduced Her Voice Matters, an initiative designed to ensure every girl is heard while fostering the skills of active listening and respectful disagreement – essential in today’s increasingly polarised world. The programme is structured around five key strands.

  • Her voice is AUTHENTIC empowers pupils to take on meaningful leadership roles and develop confidence in guiding others.
  • Her voice LEADS nurtures confident self-expression, enabling students to articulate their ideas with clarity and conviction.
  • Her voice QUESTIONS encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and the confidence to challenge and explore ideas beyond the classroom.
  • Her voice is INFLUENTIAL ensures pupils can actively contribute to shaping their environment, with their perspectives driving meaningful change.
  • Her voice is VALUED places pupil voice at the heart of decision-making, ensuring that student perspectives inform action across the school.
