About STAHS

There are more than 100 billion stars in the universe. They may look alike but they’re not identical. Each one is unique. Here at St Albans High School for Girls – STAHS – we believe that all our students are unique individuals who learn and develop differently.

St Albans High School for Girls is an independent day school for girls from the age of 4 to 18.

The journey starts at the Prep School, based in the leafy village of Wheathampstead just 5 miles from St Albans. With 18 acres of field and woodland, every child has the opportunity to get muddy in the outdoors, to play, to develop her passion for learning and to have fun.

Our Senior School is situated centrally in the historic city of St Albans, only 25 minutes by train from north London. We have around 1040 students, with 190 in the Sixth Form and 315 in the Prep school. Admission is academically selective, by interview and an exam designed to identify original and inventive thinkers.

We know that girls learn best in an all-girls’ environment, so we focus on constructing and fostering their intellectual and social confidence all the way through the school. Building their assurance through an exciting range of intellectual and co-curricular opportunities is an important part of preparing them for university and for work. And we are delighted that the vast majority of our girls go on to top university destinations when they leave St Albans.
