Music is a particular strength of STAHS and is an integral part of daily school life; the girls actively engage in musical activity and often lead the music-making. Our corporate music making, both instrumental and choral is of the highest order, particularly in the flagship groups, the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and the Chamber Choirs. We cater for the very advanced (with a special programme for the Music Scholars, many of whom are members of junior departments of London conservatoires) as well as for new and more recent starters. From large and very successful sets at GCSE, a healthy number of girls continue into the Sixth Form to study Music. Teaching at Sixth Form level is lively and rewarding and public examination results reflect the high achievement within the Department; each year, members of the A Level set go on to study music at tertiary level (to conservatoire and university departments) with a steady number going on to Oxbridge with choral scholarships and instrumental awards.
