About us

St Albans High School is an independent Church of England day school for girls between the ages of four and eighteen, offering the opportunity of a continuous education throughout the school years and a commitment to the pursuit of individual excellence.
Our Infant and Junior School is in the delightful village of Wheathampstead, and our Senior School is located in the heart of the historic city of St Albans. With some 950 pupils, the school is large enough to offer a broad based education, yet small enough to ensure that each girl is given personal recognition and attention.
Since its foundation in 1889, the school has retained close links with the Diocese of St Albans through the Bishop and the Dean. Christian teaching, based on the doctrine of the Church of England, is fundamental to the life of the school, but we are by no means exclusively Anglican. Girls of all religious denominations, nationalities and faiths are welcome at the school and play a full part in the life of the community.
The aim of the school is to give each girl the stimulus and encouragement to develop her academic abilities, a wide range of interests and a sense of personal values. Great emphasis is placed on pastoral care and the House system provides continuity of care throughout the girls' time in the school.
