Wheathampstead House Curriculum

Girls here benefit from creative and inspirational teaching, with a firm focus on identifying and nurturing the needs of the individual. They rise enthusiastically to the challenges of a varied curriculum, developing their skills as independent thinkers who are confident in the use of new technologies.
All subjects incorporate the requirements of the National Curriculum, but extend well beyond this. There is a strong emphasis on creativity and ensuring that the potential of each girl is nurtured and realised.
Girls have specialist subject teachers in Science, French, Music and Physical Education. In addition to class activities, they sometimes work in smaller groups for English and Maths, and individually for extension and reinforcement work.
Girls in our Infant department are nurtured within a caring, happy and inspiring setting. All infant classes are supported by a full time classroom assistant. All the girls work closely and enthusiastically with their teachers to develop their basic core skills and receive specialist teaching in PE and Music right from Reception. There are plenty of opportunities for play and practical work. Right from the start, all girls throughout the school encounter creative and philosophical thinking to broaden their horizons and essential life skills
As girls move into the Junior section of the school, they are encouraged to broaden their horizons through creative and philosophical thinking. In Year 6 girls go on a residential trip to the Cranedale Centre in North Yorkshire, developing leadership and interpersonal skills along with a degree of independence. It is here in Year 3 that they begin to learn French from a specialist French teacher.
