ICT

Girls enjoy discrete ICT lessons in Years 7-9 and again in Year 12. Everything we teach in lessons is in line with our belief that ICT supports life-long and independent study as well as the pleasurable pursuit of personal interests. It also prepares girls for prospective employment and our study of ICT, particularly in the later years, provides an insight into the significance and relevance of computers, applications and communications in the work environment and everyday life. The curriculum is designed to support girls across the curriculum and our ethos is that ICT can be creative and fun!
At Key Stage 3, girls learn more about the key Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Emphasis is placed on safe and effective use of email and the internet. They progress to study the internet and create their own websites. In Year 12, all girls have the opportunity to complete the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) certificate. This is an internationally recognised qualification in the field of work-related computer use. It is the fastest growing ICT user qualification in over 125 countries! The syllabus is updated by the British Computer Society on a regular basis.
Girls have the opportunity to use our facilities outside of lesson times and have participated in ICT Clubs, where they have created projects using PhotoStory, and in external projects such as the BBC School Report. The skills they develop in lessons help them to produce GCSE and A Level coursework of a high standard and to produce professional looking copy for the School Magazine.
