Design and Technology

(Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials and Textiles)

Design and Technology provides opportunities for students to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to create quality products in a range of materials.

Throughout the curriculum opportunities are created for students to engage in activities that are challenging, relevant and motivating, providing them with a sense of purpose and enabling them to play a constructive role in a technological society. As they progress through the school, students' repertoire is extended and applied in increasingly more diverse and sophisticated ways.

Design and Technology provides excellent opportunities for students to apply value judgements of an aesthetic, economic, moral, social, and technical nature and complements other subjects like Science, Mathematics, Art, IT, Geography and Economics.

A wide programme of extra-curricular activities is available ranging from lunchtime clubs to visits to exhibitions, conferences and trips, including a Gastronomic tour of France. Girls also compete successfully in Interschool Design and Technology Competitions and Tournaments.

Specialist teachers of Food, Graphics, Resistant Materials and Textiles are dedicated to developing students' full potential, resulting in excellent examination results at all levels. Many students go on to pursue successful careers within related areas.
