Service to the community

Closer to home, girls from Year 8 upwards can take part in our programme of Community Service, which may take the form of visiting elderly residents at our local nursing homes, assisting at two local nurseries or lending a hand at local charity shops. They can become involved in horse riding for the disabled in Harpenden and Elstree or entertaining students from Watling View School for children with severe learning difficulties. Through these activities, girls forge close relationships with old people and children who are younger, less fortunate than themselves, acquiring a sense of personal discovery and achievement, as well as developing an awareness of the contribution they can make to the society in which they live.

Vast sums of money are raised by High School girls for a number of charities each year through work done by each of the four Houses, but especially dear to our hearts is our sister school in Mtwara, Tanzania.
