General Information on the DofE Award Programme

How does it work?
The Award offers three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level has four specific areas - Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expeditions.
At Gold level there is also a Residential Project.
Participants must be aged between 14 and 25.
Service
Activities that help the communities, individuals or groups. You could become involved in an environmental project, work with older people or young children or other children or help out at your local place of worship.
Skills
Pursue a hobby; develop a new skill or interest. From learning to drive or a new language to developing artistic talents; you can do just about anything.
Physical Recreation
Become involved in some form of dance, sport or fitness activity. Are you the next Kelly Holmes, Michelle Wie or Ellen MacArthur?
Expedition
Perfect for developing organisational, teamwork and physical skills. Train for, plan and complete a journey on foot, horseback, canoe, boat or bike. The expedition must have a clear aim, such as exploring the environment or undertaking a challenging journey. With the Gold Award you will also need to undertake a Residential Project, which involves participating in a shared activity away from home.
Supervision, safety and a personal approach
All activities are carefully supervised and monitored. Health, safety and child protection procedures ensure that all volunteers have the appropriate skills and background to work with young people.
