A word from the Head of Sixth Form

Welcome to the St Albans High School Sixth Form website

What can you expect if you join the Sixth Form and what makes it special? Our motto is "Life in the Sixth Form – so much more than just work." Our main aim is, of course, to enable you to go on and do what you want to do at the end of your two years in the Sixth Form. Beyond that, however, there are so many opportunities for you to get involved, experience something new and take responsibility for your own progress.

The atmosphere in the Sixth Form is different. You are treated more as adults. A dedicated team of tutors will support you throughout the two years and help you to monitor your progress. You will enjoy excellent facilities such as the Common Room, your own kitchen area and a Sixth Form Library and have the opportunity to take part in a wealth of extra-curricular and fundraising activities.

I hope that these pages written by the girls themselves will give you a flavour of what you can expect. From the first day of teambuilding exercises at the start of Year 12 to the glamour of the Leavers' Ball at the end of Year 13, I believe that you will enjoy the Sixth Form experience with its own, unique atmosphere.

Whilst most girls in Year 11, not surprisingly, choose to go through to our Sixth Form, we also welcome every year a significant number of external entrants, who find the welcoming, friendly nature of the Sixth Form an easy environment to settle into. We would love to see you at our Sixth Form Information evening in the Michaelmas Term, or one of our Open Mornings or by appointment.

I look forward to meeting you

Ian Thomson
Head of Sixth Form
