![]() London is by far the richest part of Britain. But the capital still has a very high level of poverty. This problem particularly affects children. The London Standard newspaper reported on London's dispossessed throughout last week. Half the children in London live below the poverty line. Rates of child poverty in inner London are higher than that in any other region in the UK. About two fifths of London's children live in low income households. This compares dramatically with the national average of one third. There is also a high rise in the number of working households below the poverty line. This highlights the low paid and casual jobs that are the most easily available in the city. This shows that casual jobs do not pull people above the poverty line.
